Number Sense

When students are exposed to multiple representations of numbers—in a variety of different contexts—they become more agile in their thinking and can perform mental calculations easily and flexibly. A lack of number sense is one of the primary reasons why many students struggle in mathematics. With strong number sense, students are more confident and efficient in computation and problem-solving.

Problem Solving

Problem-solving represents the essence of math and research proves that nearly all students are capable of basic problem-solving, regardless of their age or achievement level. By centering instruction around problem-solving, students are able to make sense of and internalize key concepts and procedures long term.
